Convictions for Silverstone Track Invasion Protesters

Protesters Found Guilty of Risking Serious Harm

Just Stop Oil Group Targeted Formula 1 British Grand Prix

A group of Just Stop Oil protesters have been found guilty of risking serious harm during a track invasion at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix last year. The six protesters admitted to entering the track without permission and running towards oncoming cars during the opening lap of the race.

The court heard that the protesters' actions caused an immediate risk of serious harm to drivers and marshals. The protesters were carrying banners and smoke bombs, and they were able to reach the track before being apprehended.

The protesters were found guilty of aggravated trespass and causing a public nuisance. They were each sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years. They were also ordered to pay costs of £500 each.

The Just Stop Oil group has been campaigning against fossil fuel extraction and use. The group has carried out a number of protests in recent months, including blockades of oil terminals and fuel depots.

The group's actions have been met with criticism from some who argue that they are putting people at risk. However, the group has defended its actions, saying that they are necessary to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
